A 2x3 foot rug woven on a 2 harness floor loom typically weighs approximately 2-3  pounds depending on the selvedge, sett and how hard the rug is beaten during the weaving process. This wool selvedge is very high quality.  

These strands are easy to weave and create a soft & thick rug.  Most of the varieties can be combed through the warp to  create a shaggy rug.  If you want to weave an even easier rug, skip the combing.  Simply throw the strand into the shed and beat it firmly.  This creates a durable, long lasting and soft rug. Why wool selvedge and not a synthetic?  There are SO many reasons!  Here are a few: Wool is very durable Wool is stain resistant Wool is fire retardant: makes great fireplace rugs! Wool is natural, renewable , recyclable AND biodegradable !

Our selvedge is sourced from a premium woolen mill that strives to limit waste. This selvedge is a win for the environment AND a win for weavers. Shake wool rugs frequently to remove dust and loose dirt.  This helps keep selvedge rugs fluffy. Wool selvedge rugs may be machine washed in cold water.   Felting may occur.  Air dry. If you prefer to avoid felting simply hose off or gently soak in cool water to clean.
